CONFERMENT OF HONORARY FREEDOM OF THE BOROUGH

To consider whether to confer the Honorary Freedom of the Borough on the following persons, who have rendered eminent service to the borough:

 

Nomination jointly by the Conservative Group and the Residents’ Group

 

David King, of the Royal British Legion, Hornchurch Branch

 

Nomination by the Labour Group

 

Paul Binder, Band Director of the Romford Drum & Trumpet Corps

 

Minutes:

The Leader of the Council (Councillor Michael White) proposed that the Honorary Freedom of the borough be conferred upon David King, of the Royal British Legion, Hornchurch Branch, in recognition of his service to the community and, in particular to former servicemen and servicewomen.

 

Councillor John Mylod seconded the proposal, which was also supported by Councillors Georgina Galpin and Jeffrey Tucker, and greeted with general applause.

 

The proposal was UNANIMOUSLY AGREED,by 49 votes to 0 (see voting division 1) and it was RESOLVED:

 

To confer upon Mr David King the Honorary Freedom of the Borough.

 

The Mayor then congratulated Mr King, and presented to him the Badge and Grant of the Freedom.

 

 

Councillor Keith Darvill proposed that the Honorary Freedom of the borough be conferred upon Mr Paul Binder, Band Director of the Romford Drum & Trumpet Corps, in recognition of his service to the borough through the Corps, which had an international profile.

 

Councillor Dennis O’Flynn seconded the proposal, which was also supported by Councillors Jeffrey Tucker, Osman Dervish, Georgina Galpin, Clarence Barrett, Pam Light, John Mylod and Michael White, Leader of the Council.

 

The proposal was UNANIMOUSLY AGREED,by 49 votes to 0 (see division 2) and it was RESOLVED:

 

To confer upon Mr Paul Binder the Honorary Freedom of the Borough.

 

The Mayor then congratulated Mr Binder and, to Members’ applause, presented to him the Badge and Grant of the Freedom.

PRESENTATION TO MAYOR'S CADET

The Mayor will make a presentation to Cadet Corporal James Roomes, of 452 (Hornchurch) Squadron, Air Training Corps, the Mayor’s Cadet for 2011/12.

 

Minutes:

The Mayor made a presentation to the third Mayor’s Cadet of Havering, Cadet Corporal James Roomes, of 452 (Hornchurch) Squadron, Air Training Corps, and thanked him for his services during the Mayoralty.
